Dual-Eligible Striker Pauses Senior Choice to Remain with U21s
Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi has refrained from declaring senior international allegiance to either Italy or Germany ahead of the autumn international window. Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp confirmed Thursday that the 22-year-old will remain with Germany’s Under-21 squad rather than commit to a senior setup during the current call-up period.
Germany and Italy Pursuing Club Brugge Forward
The forward’s choice remains open under FIFA eligibility rules because he has not yet featured in a competitive senior international fixture. Tresoldi was born in Cagliari to Italian parents before relocating to Germany as a teenager, making him eligible for both national teams.
The decision keeps Tresoldi in the youth setup following a prolific campaign in Belgium, where he recorded 32 goal involvements across 58 appearances in all competitions last season. He has maintained that form at the start of the 2026, 27 season, scoring five goals in eight matches for Club Brugge.
“The fact that he isn’t on the list doesn’t mean that he’s chosen against Germany or against Italy,” Klopp said. “It’s not an easy decision for a youngster to make. We don’t want to put any pressure on him, we want to show him the possibilities.”
