Editorial Standards

Base24 Sports publishes football news, transfer coverage, analysis and reference data. This page sets out how we source and verify our reporting, how we use AI, how we handle unnamed sources, and how to get an error corrected.

Sourcing and verification

Our reporting draws on official club and governing-body communications, established news organisations, and named reporters with a public track record on transfer and squad news. Where a claim originates with a single outlet or reporter, we attribute it to them by name rather than presenting it as settled fact.

Transfer coverage is labelled by stage: reported interest, active negotiations, agreed terms, or completed. We do not describe a transfer as complete until the signing club or a governing body confirms it. Figures such as fees, wages and contract lengths are reported only where a source states them; we do not estimate or round unstated numbers.

Use of AI in our newsroom

Base24 Sports uses AI tools in its production process, and we think readers are entitled to know exactly how.

Short-form news cards are drafted automatically from monitored sources and published without individual pre-publication review. They are monitored after publication and corrected or removed when an error is identified. Longer features, analysis and reference pages are drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by a human editor before publication.

In both cases AI is used for drafting and structuring, not for sourcing. It is not permitted to introduce a fact, quote, figure or attribution that does not appear in the source material, and any statement we cannot trace to a source is removed rather than approximated.

Corrections

We correct errors promptly and visibly. Email desk@base24sports.com with the article URL and the specific detail you believe is wrong. We aim to respond within 48 hours.

Substantive corrections are noted at the foot of the affected article with the date of the change. Typographical and formatting fixes are made without a note. Where a story cannot be substantiated after a challenge, we withdraw it and say so rather than quietly deleting it.

Unnamed sources

We prefer named, on-the-record attribution. Where a story rests on unnamed sources, we say so explicitly and describe the sourcing as precisely as we can without identifying the person. We do not publish anonymous claims concerning an individual’s private life, conduct, or medical condition.

Independence and conflicts of interest

Editorial judgement is not influenced by advertisers, commercial partners or affiliate arrangements. Sponsored, paid or partnership content is labelled as such and is not presented as editorial. We do not accept payment to publish, alter or remove a story, and we do not report on betting markets as investment or tipping advice.
