Old Trafford Crisis Deepens as Ineos Weighs Carrick Dismissal
Michael Carrick faces imminent dismissal as Manchester United manager following a 4-1 Champions League defeat against Como that cemented the club’s worst start to a season in 40 years. The Ineos leadership team has initiated discussions regarding potential successors while confirming Carrick remains scheduled to take charge of Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.

The operational shift leaves Manchester United searching for their fourth permanent manager in three years under Ineos control. While former Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe leads considerations alongside Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler and former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, former Napoli manager Antonio Conte issued a formal statement on Friday dismissing reports linking him to the post.

“Following a wonderful and successful spell in charge of Napoli, I will take the time I need to consider how and when to return to management,” Antonio Conte said in an official statement on Friday. “I have read reports of financial demands and requests for full control that I have supposedly already made to the clubs mentioned, as well as reservations about what has been described as my ‘strong personality’. These reports are unfounded, as there is currently no concrete basis for such assessments.”
“I’m fully focused on my job here. I’ve got no time to think about these rumours because we play every three days,” Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said on Friday. “I have a lot of respect for Michael Carrick and the job he has done at Manchester United the last season. There’s nothing more to say about that.”
