Amorim's Half-Time Warning Sparked AC Milan's 2-1 Win Over Torino
Speaking to DAZN Italia following AC Milan’s 2-1 victory over Torino at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, head coach Ruben Amorim addressed the tactical and psychological adjustments that transformed his side after the interval. The fixture saw 19-year-old Alphadjo Cisse score his maiden Serie A goal alongside a late strike from substitute Adrien Rabiot, overcoming a stoppage-time response from Torino’s Che Adams.
Amorim Details the Half-Time Mindset Shift That Broke Torino’s Resistance
Asked what instructions he delivered during the interval to generate an aggressive second-half display, Amorim highlighted an excessive caution among his squad during the opening 45 minutes.
AC Milan
club“In the first half, the concern of my players was control the game, don’t lose the game, don’t lose it in transition, but we lacked aggression in the final third. We talked about that in the dressing room, they understood that this is not how you win the game. It’s not drawing, it’s not waiting for the game, we need to do that in order to win the game. We put a lot more pace into the first 20 minutes of the second half, because again I think we lack physicality in this moment.”
The tactical intervention required structural adjustments, notably the introduction of Adrien Rabiot from the bench to replace Ruben Loftus-Cheek in an advanced trequartista role distinct from his usual duties under former coach Max Allegri. This higher positioning injected the necessary forward momentum to unlock the Granata backline, allowing Milan to transition from defensive containment to sustained pressure before Che Adams halved the deficit with an acrobatic volley past Mike Maignan.
Amorim Praises Cisse and Physical Recovery Realities
Addressing the performance of teenage goalscorer Alphadjo Cisse and the physical state of his squad following a disjointed pre-season preparation, Amorim expanded on the team’s ongoing development.
Adrien Rabiot
player“It was not just the goal, but the quality that Cisse showed during the game. In the first half, he acted like the most experienced player in our team, with the way he took the game forward. I think we saw one team for the first 75 minutes, then another at the end, we struggled physically. To press the way we want to for 90 minutes, we’d have needed more games in pre-season. We are improving some players, we have a lot of players who are doing pre-season now, but we will do more work during the week.”
The integration of veterans like Luka Modric alongside Rabiot stabilized the tempo in midfield during the decisive phases of the match. While fitness limitations remain a hurdle for implementing Amorim’s preferred high-intensity defensive structure across a full ninety minutes, the three points provide immediate validation for the tactical pivot.
