3-Time Promotion Winner Takes Charge as West Ham Hand 2.5-Year Deal
West Ham United appointed former midfielder Scott Parker as head coach on Wednesday, handing the former England international a two-and-a-half-year contract at London Stadium. The 46-year-old succeeds Nuno Espirito Santo following the Portuguese manager’s departure on Tuesday.
Parker Tasked With Halting Second-Tier Slide at London Stadium
The appointment places Parker directly into first-team operations alongside newly assembled coaching staff members Steve Potts, Gerard Prenderville, and Billy Lepine. Parker will work alongside Sporting Director Mark Noble and Interim Chief Executive Karim Virani to restructure a playing squad that generated £150 million in transfer sales following summer relegation while reinvesting in signings such as £22 million midfielder Arne Engels and £12 million winger Edvin Austbo.
West Ham sit eighth in the EFL Championship table, six points adrift of league leaders Middlesbrough after dropping points in back-to-back home defeats against Southampton and West Bromwich Albion. Parker steps into his fourth second-tier managerial role, having previously secured Premier League promotion at Fulham, Bournemouth, and Burnley.
“I feel privileged and honoured to be the guy that wants to lead us back to the Premier League and be the head coach of this football club at this moment in time. I’ve been in this division three times and I’ve got out of this division three times.”
“He is someone who is held in high regard at West Ham United and throughout the game, and he was the unanimous choice of the board to become our new head coach. He has fantastic experience and pedigree across an outstanding playing and coaching career.”
